PROPOSALS to increase parking at a rail station by building a two storey car park will be revealed in Spring - over three years after they were first proposed.

Plans to boost parking at Shipley station were first revealed by West Yorkshire Combined Authority in January 2017.

The Authority has now announced that details of the £2.5 million scheme will finally be revealed to the public in Spring.

When it was first announced, the Authority said the car park would create an extra 84 spaces at the busy station.

The Telegraph & Argus asked the Authority for an update on the Shipley scheme after a similar car park plan for Steeton and Silsden Station was approved earlier this month.

Steeton and Silsden Rail Station car park plan given £3.9m funding

A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority said: "Subject to planning permission and approvals, the Combined Authority is planning to invest up to £2.5 million through the West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund to create additional parking spaces at Shipley rail station.

“Working with our partners, train operator Northern, we are investigating a decked design would enable us to provide the maximum number of bays within the limited space available and we aim to have plans available for people to see next Spring.

“Shipley is one of 14 projects within Phase 1 of our £30.5 million Rail Park and Ride Programme, which has been designed to increase station parking and provide people with increased access to train services. In turn, this will help reduce congestion, improve local air quality and enhance people’s access to jobs, training and apprenticeship opportunities, as well as leisure activities.”

Earlier this month the Combined Authority's West Yorkshire and York Investment Committee voted to approve £3.879 million funding towards another of those schemes - Steeton and Silsden Station.
