MPs have joined together to urge the Government to re-commit 'all the way' to HS2.
In a letter to Douglas Oakervee, who is leading the review into whether to scrap the rail scheme, they highlight how a "fit for purpose and futureproof transport network" including the full 'Y' version of HS2 (West Midlands to Crewe and Crewe to Manchester, and Birmingham and Leeds) and Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) is needed.
They say the region is "not prepared to face an either/or choice between NPR and HS2" and the current rail network is "unfit for purpose and needs investment now".
The letter says: "It is clear that Leeds City Region has suffered from decades of underinvestment in strategic rail infrastructure and transport.
"HS2 and NPR - together - are integral to out planned and transformational regeneration projects; helping to drive opportunities and jobs in our key growth sectors, rebalancing the UK economy and delivering prosperity and social mobility more widely."
Among those who have signed the letter are Bradford MP Naz Shah and Keighley MP John Grogan, plus Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker.
