THE Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust has retained its 'good' rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The health watchdog inspected the Trust in May and July and rated it as 'good' in each of five key questions: are services safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led?

Some areas of practice were judged to be outstanding. They included the palliative ambulance service responding well to people's needs, all vehicles having automated defibrillators fitted and computer-assisted route scheduling.

Areas for improvement included ensuring sufficient numbers of "suitably skilled, qualified and experienced staff" in the mental health nursing team, improving appraisal rates and improving diversity at board level, in senior roles and within the wider organisation.
