A POPULAR community store has fundraising in the bag.

The One Stop shop in Fell Lane, Keighley, donated £542 to the local Scout group.

And the cash – raised through the sale of carrier bags – has been used to carry out badly-needed repairs and maintenance work to the Scout hut, in Holme Mill Lane.

The long-established shop, known as Fred’s, has been run since 2001 by Yogi Patel and his family.

He said the business was delighted to support the Scout group.

“All monies generated through the sale of our carrier bags – which are made from over 90 per cent recycled material – go to local charities,” said Mr Patel.

“On this occasion we felt it appropriate to make a donation to help with the upkeep of the Scout hut – which provides the facilities that in turn help children in the area.”

The Carriers for Causes grants scheme is run by The One Stop shop chain in conjunction with the Groundwork charitable organisation.

Nicola Turner, Group Scout Leader at 1st Keighley (Fell Lane), said the group was hugely grateful.

She added: “On behalf of the group and the community it serves, I’d like to thank Yogi, Groundwork and One Stop for their generosity. Our building is used regularly for various community events including Scouting and Kiddicare so the grant was appreciated by many.”
