A CO-OP store in Bradford is to reopen at the end of this month following a £1.1m facelift as part of the firm's investment in its Yorkshire store estate.

The revamped Wibsey store, on Fair Road, will open its doors on October 31, offering customers a greater choice of healthy foods, meal ideas, food-to-go, award-winning wines and essentials.

The Co-op is investing almost £6 million in stores this October, upgrading four Co-ops across Yorkshire.

As well as Wibsey, the Settle store will reopen tomorrow following a £1.4m revamp of its petrol station.

This will be followed by Jennyfield Drive, Harrogate, following a £1.7m facelift and Holmfirth, after a £1.7m revamp. Both these stores reopen on October 31.

In addition people in Holmfirth will also be first in the North to enjoy the firm's &Coffee experience - a partnership between the convenience retailer and Churchill Catering, which will see a full-scale coffee shop installed within the store.

Derek Furnival, Co-op’s divisional managing director, said: “We have a long and proud history of serving customers and members in Yorkshire and are delighted to be upgrading stores for communities in such a diverse range of locations.

“From the heart of the Yorkshire Dales to more urban locations in Bradford and Harrogate, we are committed to serving the needs of people living in the county.

"We’re also thrilled to be establishing our first ‘& Coffee’ store in Holmfirth and are confident that locals will benefit from enjoying refreshments in a shared space that they can call their own.”

Mark Pettigrew, retail support centre director at the Co-op, added: “We’re very excited to be bringing the ‘& Coffee’ concept to Yorkshire.

"It’s a first for our customers in the North. We want the coffee shops to be a place for those living in and around Holmfirth to meet and enjoy a range of quality drinks and snacks, with locally sourced produce and tailored menus.

"It’s also an ideal place for book clubs, societies, sports groups and other organisations to get together after hours, as well as during normal store opening hours.”

Ian Surtees, chief executive officer, Vertas Group, which owns Churchill Catering, said: “The Co-op is one of Great Britain’s most trusted brands so it’s a wonderful honour to play our part in that success continuing.

"We are looking forward to working side by side with the in-store managers to create community hubs that provide more than just a great cup of coffee.”

Stores will also bring a funding boost for local good causes through the Co-op’s membership scheme, where members receive a 5 per cent reward when they swipe their card when buying own-branded products, and the Co-op donates a further 1 per cent to local good causes.

The convenience retailer also offers a 10 per cent discount to students in the area holding the NUS extra card to support them during their studies.

In addition all the Co-op stores will run on 100 per cent renewable electricity.
