POLICE are appealing for information after a spate of crime at a church, which included the burglary of a sacred item.

A number of burglaries and incidents involving costly damage occurred over two weeks at St Winefride's Church, on St Paul's Avenue, Wibsey.

Between August 31 and September 2, suspects entered the church and made off with two fire extinguishers from the hallway.

Nine days later, on September 11, the property was entered once again, with suspects taking a brass tabernacle - a religious container.

It is a sacred box that is often used to store The Eucharist (The Holy Communion).

Later that day the windows of the church hall were smashed, but the suspects failed to gain entry.

Then, on September 15, suspects stole copper plating from the church facade.

Hundreds of pounds worth of damage was also caused to the building.

If you have any information or witnessed any suspicious behaviour around the building, contact the Bradford South Neighbourhood Team on 101.
