BUSINESSES are being targeted in a new council campaign to tackle the problem of modern slavery in the supply chain.

Bradford Council wants to ensure that contracts and suppliers don’t contribute to modern day slavery and exploitation and that those it has contracts with have ethical supply chains.

It has adopted the Co-operative Party’s charter against modern slavery to ensure procurement practices don’t support slavery, linking to the Council’s Social Value Procurement Policy.

All organisations that form part of the public sector supply chain will have to ensure and evidence that their business practices are ethical and free from slavery and exploitation. If they do not, they risk being excluded from future public sector commissioning and procurement processes.

The council has partnered with Libre Solutions to deliver the first of many sessions for the district's businesses.

The event, hosted at City Hall in the banqueting suite, will cost £30 per person; any profit raised from holding the event will be donated to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

Taking place on October 22, tickets can be purchased on the Eventbrite website.
