KARL Robinson has promised to support George Thorne after the midfielder’s latest injury setback.

The 26-year-old suffered a dislocated shoulder just 19 minutes into his full Oxford United debut against West Ham United yesterday.

Thorne was immediately taken for an X-Ray and is due to have an MRI scan today to determine how long he will be on the sidelines for.

But Robinson has already offering his backing to the on-loan Derby County man.

He said: “The X-ray came back okay but the main worry was about the damage to the ligaments, which only an MRI scan can tell us.

“I spoke to him first thing this morning and he’s not in a great place.

“He’s ecstatic for the players – the first thing he said was ‘what a great result’ and that just shows the type of man that he is.”

Thorne signed in the summer but his pre-season was disrupted by a nerve issue, while he has already had to battle through three serious injuries during his career.

Robinson added: “Sometimes you find that stuff does follow you around.

“He’s got to make sure he stays strong in himself - he’s got the support of me, the staff and the players.”
