A MOTORBIKE showroom in Shipley has announced plans to relocate as part of expansion plans.

Cobb & Jagger is currently based on Saltaire Road and sells Ducati and Triumph Motorcycles.

But now the company has revealed plans to move to another showroom site in the town - the former JCT 600 site on Salts Mill Road.

The family company says it cannot expand any further on its existing site, and identified the JCT site as one that would allow the business to grow.

A planning application to extend, alter and refurbish the site has now been submitted to Bradford Council.

The JCT 600 site showroom shut in November due to a restructuring in the business. Staff were relocated to the company’s Bradford, Menston and Rawdon showrooms.

That area of the town is currently undergoing a major change. Cardinal shopfitters moved from the area to Laisterdyke in 2016, and that site is currently being re-developed as a shopping complex.

And next year HMRC is due to close its Shipley offices, transferring staff to Leeds.

The planning application submitted by Patrick Jagger from Cobb & Jagger says: “Over the course of the past 10 years the existing business has expanded to a point where the current premises are no longer suitable and provide no further expansion space.

“The building is also set over multiple storeys which is not ideal for transfer/movement of motorcycles.

“In order to maintain their exclusivity with both Triumph and Ducati, Cobb & Jagger have reviewed relocating to new premises within the local area which are more suitable for their ever growing needs and to meet the requirements of both franchises.

“Having over the past year reviewed various sites, Cobb and Jagger have now acquired the former JCT 600 Vauxhall site off Quayside in Shipley.”

It says the new site offers “much more suitable and expandable accommodation” for the business.

It will see the site split to provide separate showrooms for Ducati and Triumph, although the application says any works will be sympathetic to the surrounding area, which includes Victoria Mills.

Access to the site will remain from Quayside.

The application adds: “It is considered that the proposed extension and alterations will have no impact on the surrounding area and at the same time facilitate the continuing expansion and development of a well-established local business.”

A decision on the application is expected in November.

The area of Shipley is one Bradford Council is hoping to regenerate in the coming years.

Last December Bradford Council announced that the Salts Mill Road area would be one of several “business development zones” in the District.

The Council said the zones would help boost jobs and investment by helping local businesses to invest in their productivity, upgrade their premises and unlock potential capacity in the surrounding areas.
