RECYCLING Week kicked off with Bradford Council’s Recycling Team setting up stall in City Park yesterday to give advice and information about recycling in the district.

Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, Councillor Sarah Ferriby, was on hand with £50 Broadway shopping vouchers for the winners of the competition to name two new bin wagons added to the Council’s fleet.

The names of two new wagons, Maurice and Wally, were drawn from a hat from suggestions submitted by Bradford residents.

During the week there will be recycling roadshows and stalls at Carlisle Business Centre (Wed) and the Asda superstore (Thu) on Rooley Lane.

Now in its 17th year, Recycle Week is a celebration of recycling, organised by the Waste and Resources Action Plan charity, known as WRAP.

The aim of the week is to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage the public to recycle more by demonstrating the benefits of recycling items from all around the home.

This year’s Recycling Week theme will be: "Recycling. It’s in our own hands."

Cllr Ferriby said: “Recycle Week is a great opportunity to think about your recycling behaviour. It gives us the chance to try to inspire and support citizens to take action and make recycling the new norm.”
