THE CAPTIVATING canopy of a starry big top will host clumsy clowns, gravity-defying acrobats and up to 1,000 local children as free tickets are dished out for an all-inclusive circus.

The touring tent of Circus Starr is returning to Oxford to bring the magic of the big top to vulnerable and disabled children, plus their families and carers.

The ‘circus with a purpose’ strives to be accessible to all and inclusive for everyone to experience the big top extravaganza that will roll up in South Park.

The firm’s website says: “We believe in a world where anything is possible.

"We understand that attending mainstream events can be difficult for children with additional needs or families in difficult circumstances which is why we’ve created a tut-free zone; a show in which shouting out, dancing and jumping up and down are expected.

“At our circus, everyone is absolutely encouraged to let go of their worries, get involved, and be themselves.”

Organisers of the not-for-profit circus have announced it will return to Oxford for one day only on October 12 and it is giving away 1,000 free tickets.

The community event exists to bring the magical art of circus to children facing various difficulties that they do not deserve – from disabilities to bereavements.

Oxford Mail:

Children and their families will be able to enjoy acts from around the world including 'super skills' from Ross Walters with his diablo, energetic exploits on the Russian bar and springboard from the Havana Troupe.

Mischievous clown Andreea will also return to ‘share some smiles with those who need it most’ and all of it presented by ringmaster James Ellis.

Circus Starr director Michelle Crossley said: “A visit to Circus Starr can give a child the rare opportunity to experience the inspiring world of circus in an environment where all of their needs are met.

“The atmosphere in our big top is warm, friendly and extremely relaxed.

“Children are encouraged to be themselves – shout out, move around, dance or take time out if they need to.

“We have seen time and time again the positive impact that a visit to our show can have, and it makes us so proud of what we do.”

Organisers have also billed the show as the circus of the #RevoLOOtion, making history by becoming the first to tour with Changing Places Facilities.

The Changing Places facilities will be provided on-site by Mobiloo and include adult-sized changing bench, a hoist and disabled toilet.

The spectacle will be held in South Park, off Cheney Lane, on Saturday, October 12, and will include two shows; one at 1.30pm and the other at 4pm.

It is performing for just one day to ensure it can reach as many families as possible around the country before November 13.

Families can apply for the free tickets by filling in a form online through the company’s website.
