A WOMAN has died after her car left the road, smashed into a fence and ended up in a river.

The 60-year-old driver was travelling along Church Road, Cuddesdon, when it happened on Monday, September 16.

Thames Valley Police said the beige Skoda Superb left the road at some point between 8.15pm and 9.40pm, and hit a fence before coming to rest in the river.

The car was partially submerged and the driver, from Garsington, was rescued by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue and rushed to the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries.

She passed away in hospital on Thursday.

Thames Valley Police today released details to appeal for anyone with information, or who may have seen debris on the road of the damaged fencing.

Investigating officer PC Naomi Hames of the Serious Collisions Investigations Unit based at Bicester, said: "This tragic incident occurred on a rural stretch of road sometime between 8.15pm and 9.40pm last Monday.

"I am appealing to anybody who may have seen the vehicle prior to the incident, or may have seen the collision to contact the 24-hour non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 43190287073.

"I am also asking for anybody who may have seen debris on the road or damage to the fencing in Church Road to come forward, and should anybody have been driving in the area who may have dash-cam footage, please check this and contact us if you have any information.

"The woman's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time."
