A POLICE officer has issued a stern reminder about the importance of obeying cordons.

PC Becky Tomkins posted on social media site Twitter about her experience of using scene tape.

Last Thursday she was using the tape - often labelled with "police line, do not cross" - and had people querying as to whether they could cross it.

She said: "This tape is not used lightly. Why do people still ask if they can cross it?

"If you could cross it then it wouldn’t be there.I think it was worse than guarding a 'Road Closed' sign."

The officer added that if a member of the public crossed without permission, the offence would depend on the situation.

She said: "It would depend, but potentially interference, obstruct.

"I wouldn’t like to be them in court answering to why their DNA was all over it."
