COUNCILLORS have urged residents not to panic and join as one after a young woman was attacked yesterday.

The woman, in her 20s, was stabbed four times in the street by a man, in Musgrave Drive, Fagley in the early hours of Thursday morning.

She was stabbed in the neck and was taken to hospital.

A family member confirmed she was recovering at home, but is still in a state of shock.

The ordeal has left the relative shaken and worried as to whether the suspect might return.

But Councillor Brendan Stubbs (Eccleshill, Lib Dem) reiterated the importance of remembering that attacks like this are rare and that people should not panic.

He said: "I think knife crime in Bradford is low compared to some places, but it's always a complete shock when it does happen.

"I wouldn't want anybody to worry though about walking the streets of Eccleshill, or Bradford for that matter.

"I'd ask if someone does know something, get in touch with police or Crimestoppers, to catch the person responsible as soon as possible.

"I hope that the lady involved makes a full recovery."

The relative said at 10:30am that she believed the suspect had not been arrested yet.

One councillor said that at this time, everyone needs to channel neighbourhood spirit.

Councillor Geoff Reid (Fagley, Lib Dem) said: "This is the last thing we want on the streets of Fagley.

"The area has had a bit of bad luck in recent years, and this does not improve the situation at all.

"We've just got to stand together against this sort of thing.

"We need all of the community strength we can get."

The relative of the victim described the act as "cowardly".

They said: "She's in pain and we're scared as to what's happened.

"It's not her problem. It's been brought to her and it was cowardly - he stabbed her four times."

They added that the suspect came to the victim to find out some information about someone else and when she refused he attacked her.

Officers were at the scene for most of the morning and into the early afternoon.

There was also a cordon in place, beginning where the road meets Musgrave Drive and ending at its junction with Moorside Road.

This was removed at around 1:01pm.

A resident - who lives on Leeds Road - admitted she wasn't surprised by the incident.

She said: "There was one here last year. Somebody got shot.

"It's always happening round here.

"It's a bad place. It used to be good, but now it's not."
