UP to four new KFC stores could come to Bradford over the next few years.

Data pulled from the fast-food chain's website highlights "target locations" across the country for future franchisees.

There are 543 scope sites in total, with 31 potential locations earmarked in Yorkshire and the Humber.

In Bradford, the fried chicken giant has its eyes set on the suburbs of the city.

With five stores already operating in-and-around the centre, it makes sense that the business is seeking opportunities more further afield.

Shelf is the nearest potential site on the list to the city centre, sitting just 2.4 miles down the road from Bradford's newest KFC at Odsal Top.

That opened just before Christmas in 2017 and has a colourful history already, having submitted and then withdrawn a late-night licensing application in January 2018.

Heckmondwike remains a key battle ground for KFC.

The North Kirklees town features on the list and it was rumoured last August that the firm was part of a planning application for a small retail site there.

That scheme has seen a number of rebuttals since.

The picturesque town of Skipton has both a McDonald's and Burger King currently, but these sit on its outskirts.

They could be added to by KFC in the future, with Skipton making the "target locations" list.

The final site is at Brighouse.

If you live there, currently the only way of getting your hands on the Colonel's famous fried chicken is to hop onto the M62 and stop off at Hartshead Services or head into Halifax or Huddersfield.

A dedicated KFC for the town would be a welcome development.

All four locations are marked as being sites for a Drive-Thru, rather than a high-street store.

Thornbury is also on the list, but a KFC spokesperson confirmed this needs to be removed.

There is already a Drive-Thru store in the area, at the Gallagher Leisure Park, Dick Lane, next to the building that contains Odeon cinema and Pure Gym.

Much like the troubles experienced in Heckmondwike, the planning permission for two new drive-through restaurant units to be built at Thornbury were initially rejected.

But come June 2016 they were approved, with a KFC and Starbucks taking their place in the units.

In total, Bradford and its surrounding areas house 12 KFC stores.

The main city centre outlet is situated in the Broadway, with other stores nearby on Ingleby Road and Tong Street.

Further afield, chicken lovers can get their fix at stores in Greengates, Guiseley, Baildon, Horsforth and Birstall.

There is also a single Drive-Thru KFC in Keighley.

A KFC spokesperson said: "KFC is always on the look out for new sites."
