A BRADFORD park has missed out on being named the UK's best park, but has been recognised as one of the country's "much loved" parks.

Lister Park in Manningham was in the running for the award, which was run by Fields In Trust.

The eventual winner was Stanley Park in Blackpool, with Beaumont Park in Huddersfield named best park in Yorkshire and the Humber.

Out of the hundreds of parks that were nominated, Lister Park finished in the top 20 per cent, gaining the title of "much loved" park.

It is one of only six parks in Yorkshire to receive the status.

Lister Park is the home of Cartwright Hall Gallery, which includes a gallery dedicated to Bradford artist David Hockney, a boating lake and numerous impressive floral displays.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: "We are thrilled that Lister Park has been granted this status and what makes this even more special is that it was voted for by the people who use the park and love it.

"Our parks are a wonderful resource for the people of the district and we are rightly proud of them.

"I would like to thank our staff as well as the many enthusiastic and committed volunteers whose contribution is greatly appreciated by both the Council and the users of the district’s parks.

"I hope people will carry on enjoying Lister Park and all our parks."
