A BRADFORD Beaver group were treated to a special train trip as reward for its great community spirit.

The 1st Bingley Beaver colony took to carriages of Northern Rail's brand new electric trains, to experience what many commuters and train travellers will over the coming months.

With Bradford Forster Square Station adopters, Friends of Bingley, the Beaver clan has helped grow and maintain the garden at the station.

Recently, the youngsters designed, built, and installed bird boxes there.

There was only one answer when the group were asked what it wanted as a special treat for all its hard work.

A ride on the new trains, as well as the chance to sit in the driver's seat.

Richard Isaac, Community and Sustainability Manager for Northern, said: "It was a fantastic night and lots of the Beavers were saying they want to work for Northern when they grow up.

"Our Northern colleagues helped to create a special memory for these young Beavers, and they will remember their first trip on a brand new electric train forever."

The new Class 331 trains were first introduced by Northern onto the Airedale and Wharfedale lines on Monday, September 9.

There will be 101 units operating by the end of the year, which is all part of a £500 million investment.

The new trains are already in service between Bradford, Skipton, Ilkley and Leeds.
