NORTH Wales Police are considering using officers from outside of Caia Park to patrol the area in street clothes, in order to help them tackle drug crime.

The latest Caia Park Community Council Meeting was attended by PC John Clarke and PCSO Nicholas Perry, who were discussing the current drug issue in the area with councillors.

The officers believe they are making progress in the area with multiple warrants being drawn up and implemented every day. They also showed an example of the new DNA tagging spray to tackle off-road bikes and explained to councillors how it works.

However, they admitted it can be difficult for any of the police to remain undercover or undetected by targets in the area.

PC Clarke explained: “The problem is that a lot of the people that we’ve been targeting, they know who we are, even if we’re in street clothes.

“It wouldn’t make a difference if I, for example, walked down the street in civilian clothes because they know me, they know my face.

“In the same way, they know the unmarked police cars now, we’ve got a new one that is coming soon, but we don’t have the resources to keep changing the unmarked cars all the time, which makes it difficult.”

In an attempt to remain undetected and use stop-and-search more often, the force is considering bringing in officers who would usually patrol other areas of Wrexham, as those who are being targeted will not recognise them.

PCSO Perry said: “It has to be officers from outside the area though, we have a list of targeted addresses and streets.”
