THE Wrexham Food Festival has been branded a big success by one of its organisers.

The event drew approximately 7,500 visitors and around £250,000 was spent on site.

Speaking to The Leader, owner of The Lemon Tree and one of the organisers of the Wrexham Food Festival, Sam Regan, said is already looking forward to next year after this year’s success.

He said: “I think this year went very, very well. We were lucky with the weather throughout the weekend which always helps.

“The traders were ecstatic with the amount of business that they managed to do over the course of the weekend, and the customers seemed to really enjoy everything that was on offer.

“We promised a bigger and better event than last year, and I think we delivered on that promise, I think it was a big success.”

The Wrexham Food Festival is a not-for-profit event organised by Mr Regan as well as Alex Jones of The Bank in High Street. Any surplus money that is made over the weekend is donated to charity.

Mr Regan said that he hopes to grow the event in years to come and thanked all who attended the event on September 7 and 8.

He said: “The event does cost us around £30,000 to put on, so we do have to charge people a fee to attend in order to balance the books, but any surplus money that we do make is donated to charity.

“The intention was to do this for three years, with this being the second year, but who knows? I would love for the event to take over the entire town centre one year, although I think we are a couple years off accomplishing something like that.

“This is a huge event for Wrexham, we’ve calculated that around £250,000 was spent whilst on site, so that’s not taking into account any bars, pubs, restaurants or shops that would have benefitted from an increase of people in the town centre.

“We also think there were around 7,500 people in attendance over the course of the weekend, although that figure is a little bit harder to calculate.

“I’d like to thank the multiple sponsors who helped us to put on the event as we couldn’t have done it without them, and of course, everyone who came to the event and enjoyed themselves.”
