A MAN who left his girlfriend trapped in a car which had overturned was caught by a police dog hiding in a bush, officers have said.

Police were called out to the incident on the A59 near Clitheroe on Friday night.

When they arrived they found the driver of the car had run off, leaving his girlfriend trapped in the vehicle.

The driver was found by Police Dog Viper hiding in a nearby bush.

The man's girlfriend was not said to have been seriously injured in the incident.

It is not thought any other vehicle was involved in the incident.

Police confirmed a 35-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. He remained in police custody this afternoon.

Paramedics also attended.

The Lancashire Police Dog Unit Tweeted: "Last night, Team Viper responded to report of car on its roof near Clitheroe. Driver had run off leaving girlfriend trapped.

"Viper tracked down suspect who was well hidden in woods nearby.

"One arrested for drink driving. Girlfriend luckily escaped serious injury #T5Dogs #T5TacOps."
