A man caught burgling the garden centre at Morrisons in Mayo Avenue, Bradford, has been jailed for eight months.

Jerome Williams, 26, had been recalled to prison on licence to serve the balance of his sentence as a three-strike housebreaker, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Williams, of Curlew Street, Little Horton, was spotted on the roof of the small garden centre near the store’s main entrance at 11.30pm on March 25.

When the police arrived to arrest him, he was in the garden centre, prosecutor Philip Adams said.

Williams, who was wearing dark hooded clothing and gloves, climbed out through the plastic roof and gave himself up. The court heard that nothing was taken and no damage was caused.

Williams told officers he was stealing to buy crack cocaine.

He admitted the burglary and to a Bail Act offence after failing to attend court and being wanted on warrant for four months.

Williams had 12 previous convictions for 15 offences, including three for house burglary.

His solicitor advocate, John Bottomley, said he would not be released from jail for up to six months.

Williams no longer took drugs and he was doing well in prison.

He was jailed for six months for burglary and two months to run consecutively for the Bail Act offence.
