WORK is well underway to refurbish an office building that was vacated this weekend.
Her Majesty's Revenue and Custom staff based at the Interchange office building on Nelson Street had their last day in the building on Friday.
They have temporarily moved to the HMRC offices in Centenary Court, before the entire workforce is eventually moved to a new "hub" in Leeds.
A member of staff, who asked to remain anonymous, said "there were tears" on the final day in the office, and that between 150 and 200 HMRC staff worked in the Interchange building.
Plans to close tax offices in Bradford and Shipley at cost of almost 2,000 jobs look set in stone
Last Summer it was announced that the building's owners, Luxembourg based Bourdon Interchange SARL, were planning to refurbish the building to create Grade A office space in a bid to attract new tenants.
Work would include new signage, a new more accessible entrance on Nelson Street, better access to the Interchange bus station and new cladding on the building.
Work has already started on the internal refurbishment, with works including changes to the entrance areas at both sides is in progress due to begin shortly.
