A MAN has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was knocked over on Shipley Airedale Road.

The 63-year-old was taken to Leeds General Infirmary after the crash at 8am on Saturday.

The southbound road was shut by officers from the junction with Leeds Road to Barkerend Road.

The northbound road remained open as normal.

A grey BMW 140 remained at the scene throughout the morning and its position was marked on the road with green paint.

Other markings could be seen nearby, but all other vehicles were removed from the carriageway, with police vehicles blocking the road to traffic.

The pedestrian crossing across Shipley Airedale Road was also closed while investigation work was carried out.

The driver of the BMW stopped at the scene and has been interviewed about the incident.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or the circumstances leading up to it.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the man walking from Leeds Road out of the city centre or the movements of the BMW and has any relevant dashcam footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit via 101 quoting log number 432 of September 7.
