BINGLEY Weekender will officially return in 2020 with more than 1000 tickets already sold.

Organisers announced the festival will be back for its second year, with early bird tickets on sale from yesterday morning.

The new-look event took the place of Bingley Live Music (BML) at short notice, for the first time this year, after the popular festival was cancelled.

Spread between August 30 and September 1, Bingley Weekender was a roaring success with the public treated to the tones of big hitters such as Ocean Colour Scene, Doves and James.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday galleries from this year...

Director and promoter at SSD Concerts - the company who ran this year's event and helped the council with BML the previous two years - Steve Davis said: "There was a challenge in time, and there was certainly more we wanted to do that we could not fit in the rugby club.

"But everyone had a good time. It felt like a really good event."

Next year, Bingley Weekender will run at the end of the season again - between September 4 and 6.

Tickets are generously priced at £90 for adults and £40 for children (6-15 years) for the full weekend, with camping tickets costing £119 and £80 respectively.

Payments can also be spread across an 11-month plan and it seems there's already a big appetite for next year's iteration.

Mr Davis said: "We're feeling really good, really strong. We've done over one thousand tickets on Friday morning, in three hours.

"It really shot off considering the line-up has not been announced yet.

"The most surprising and refreshing thing is the customer comments we've had since the first Bingley Weekender.

"With the time scale this one will be even better.

"There's going to be glamping in the field now.

"A longer timescale means we can have a bigger and better stage, more stalls, more indepedent food stalls."

The director and promoter also revealed that big-name headliners have already been booked for next year, with Saturday described as a "big day".

One of the highlights of this year was the mix of characters - adults, teens and families alike - and that's a vibe Mr Davis wants to maintain.

But, in the future, who knows where Bingley Weekender could end up.

Mr Davis said: "We want to get bigger and bigger.

"But we'll use that site to its full potential.

"Even in Myrtle Park we thought it could go bigger.

"The response we got though meant for 2020 it makes sense to stick at the rugby club and then maybe look for bigger options further down the line."
