Hoghton Tower made an appearance on BBC One's Peaky Blinders episode last night.

Featuring on the third episode of the new series, the tower could be seen in the opening scene, as a car drove towards it.

The manor house in Preston was used to depict St Hilda's Orphanage in Birmingham.

Previously, the cast have filmed in places such as Bolton, Manchester city centre and Lancashire Mining Museum.

The scene inside the building showed Cillian Murphy's character Tommy Shelby and Helen McCrory's character Polly Grey questioning the Orphanage Mother Superior over concerns the nuns were beating children.

A number of social media users were unaware that the episode had been filmed at Hoghton Tower, as it seems the film crew and the tower kept things relatively quiet.

Claire Pickervance commented: "He was in reach and I didn't know."

While Julie Howarth said: "If only we had known sooner."

Keelie May said: "Cillian Murphy was this close to me and I had no idea."
