THE bosses of an up and coming bank chain says the opening of a Bradford branch will be a 'milestone.'

Metro Bank is set to open two brand-new stores in Bradford and Sheffield, creating around 50 new jobs in Yorkshire. They will be the first stores in Yorkshire, and are due to open next year.

A planning application was submitted this month to turn the former Five Guys and neighbouring Bright House unit into a city centre bank.

As previously reported in the Telegraph & Argus, Bright House will move to an empty unit in the Xchange development to make way for the bank.

The bank will open from early in the morning until late at night, seven-days-a-week.

From Five Guys to finance - plans for new city centre bank

Craig Donaldson, Chief Executive Officer at Metro Bank says: “Bringing the banking revolution to Yorkshire is a real milestone for Metro Bank. We’re thrilled to be arriving in these two cities next year.”

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, adds: “It’s great to see Metro Bank choose Bradford as one of its first locations in the region. The city is home to so many successful SMEs and Metro Bank have obviously recognised this with their new investment.”

The Bradford branch will have thousands of safe deposit boxes for customers to store their valuables, as well as free coin counting facilities.

The stores will also deliver Metro Bank’s free financial education programme, Money Zone, to schools and youth groups in the area. The National Curriculum approved training, which is provided through classroom and store-based sessions, has already supported more than 100,000 children across the UK with their financial literacy.

All stores are open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Fridays, 8am to 6pm on Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sundays and bank holidays, 362 days a year.
