A masked man delivering "very muddled" propaganda to unassuming residents in part of the district has caused alarm in the community.

Photographs of the anonymous messenger in Silsden appeared to show the man decked out in a black balaclava and baseball cap, wandering around the quiet town, delivering letters from a group known as MORON (Marxist Out Rage Only Notion).

The letter refers to an event in July and bemoans the Government and judiciary in the United Kingdom.

The top line of the two page letter reads: “MORON has a vision to unite the people of our country and is devoted to galvanising the efforts of all our people from all backgrounds to rejoice in their pride in subjugating Gripe Britain to culturally Marxist policies and social engineering."

The man’s choice of headwear caused a stir in the streets he visited, with some residents saying they feel intimidated and scared by the stranger’s actions.

One man, who wished to stay anonymous, said: “There were quite a lot of people saying they’d seen him or had called police.

“Nobody seems to have any idea who he is or even whether he comes from the town.”

A number of people commented on Facebook that their children had been scared and felt the man's appearance was intimidating.

A local resident posted: “It’s very strange. “I would think judging by the letter content his hidden face and sunglasses is to hide the identity."

Lisa Thornton added: “So there’s some random bloke walking the streets in a balaclava?!

She added: "That’s going to scare a fair few.”

Meanwhile, Cllr Rebecca Whitaker, (Conservative, Craven) has advised residents who come across the masked man to contact police if they feel threatened.

She told the Telegraph & Argus: “I haven’t received any calls from residents regarding this.

“It seems to send a mixed message and it contradicts itself and goes on to say reach out to schools, but I don’t think this is something schools want to get involved in.

“I think it is a hoax because it is entitled ‘MORON’ and it seems to be a joke in very poor taste.

“Delivering something in a mask is very strange and it is very concerning.

“If anyone comes across him they should call the police.

“I don’t know what the message is he is trying to get across because it is very muddled.

“Anyone reading it is more than likely to put it in the bin.

“Knocking on people’s houses and wearing a mask is not a normal way to get a message across."

She added: "I world urge my residents to err on the side of caution and be sensible.”
