A team of paranormal investigators who visited Keighley's Royal Arcade says there's "definitely" spirits in the historic building - but they're not malevolent.

The research was hosted by Andy and Sharon Wiseman from Keighley Paranormal Investigations and Project Reveal - Ghosts of Britain's Linzi Sheeran and Lee Steer.

The investigation, which was broadcast live to Linzi and Lee's audience of 122,000 people, centered around shops where tenants described feeling "uncomfortable" and the underground shopping area which was uncovered in 2003.

Andy, who describes himself as a skeptic believer, had been told of the spirits of two children and a soldier in the upstairs section.

It is the first paranormal investigation to take place on the site with Andy's son, Joseph, filming the night.

The Oakworth resident said: "We got into an old stable and we put out some things that pick up electromagnetic fields, cat balls - spirits absolutely love this.

"The electro magnetic field was going off. Everytime we asked it to back away it went straight to the ball.

"I think there's something there but it needs some more investigating. We'd like to go back."

Andy, who works as an entertainer, says he isn't "shy" to speak with the spirits.

Andy and Lee found one area in the market which, they say, used to be a brothel.

The two men used a spirit box, which scans different radio frequencies for people to 'speak' to the unknown, as they got into the character of a customer.

Andy asked how much the service costs to which the 'spirit' replied, £3.

Lee, who is quite skeptical about the existence of spirits, also used old coins to incite a reaction.

Viewers on the live stream also shared screenshots of moments they thought a spirit had been captured on video.

Linzi, who travels around Yorkshire to different investigations, said: "We are actually the biggest paranormal team in the UK. Our live streams go across America and all over the world.

"There's a lady (in one of the shops) and she had to move - things were moving. We noticed it was very cold in that shop.

"There wasn't a horrible negative feeling in there. We were getting sounds like children speaking.

"We went into the other shops. We went in and it was cold and it did feel a little strange, not as nice as the other one. When we went down it was just adult voices only coming through - whether it's just something or nothing we don't know."

For Andy, who found his interest in the paranormal by watching TV shows on the subject, it's all about being "open-minded".

A spirit is seen as a being that does what it wants freely like the rest of us, while a ghost is "trapped" in a period of time.

Andy, who is now set to explore Drill Hall in Lincoln, said: "It's just the really strange unexplainable things you get.

"There's a lot of people out there who investigate and they're trying to prove that there isn't something there.

"Be open-minded if you get the chance to go and see for yourself."
