A MEETING and a protest about the current situation in Kashmir are to be held in Bradford.

A seminar is to be held at City Hall tomorrow at 1pm while on Monday a mass demonstration will take place in City Park from 2.30pm till 5pm

The seminar has been organised by Jummu Kashmir Self Determination Movement international to raise awareness about the current situation in Indian occupied Kashmir.

The team from JKSDMI met with Richard Corbett MEP who recently visited Pakistan and was able to tour around the Azad Jammu Kashmir region from where the majority of the Bradford population have settled.

The community members expressed concern about the escalating tensions in the area due to the revocation of article 370 and 35A of the Indian constitution which has meant a virtual communication lockdown for the people of Kashmir and curfew like conditions for many.

Richard Corbett updated the JKSDMI team members about future activities planned at the European parliament which will aim to work towards a peaceful resolution for the area.

There are global concerns about this longstanding conflict as both India and Pakistan are nuclear zones. Mr Corbett along with other EU colleagues has tabled a motion for a pencil resolution of this issue and a conference is also planned for next month.

The team of JKSDMI encourage local activities to attend the seminar and learn more about how they can engage and support the work for peace across the region.

Monday's demonstration to protest about India's action and in support of the Kashmiri's right of self -determination has been organised by Kashmir Solidarity.
