PLANS to turn a 180 year old pub into housing have been submitted to Bradford Council.

The Burlington Arms on Market Street, in Keighley town centre, shut last year after the licensees retired.

The former Timothy Taylor run drinking hole has remained empty since.

Zentek Holdings have now submitted an application to turn the pub and its attached living accommodation into four, two bed houses, including building a first floor extension.

A similar application for the building was refused in May due to it falling within the Keighley Town Centre conservation Area. The building is next to Grade II* listed Keighley Shared Church.

‘Historical’ bar plan for Keighley's Victorian arcade

Refusing that application, officers said the extension would be “a disruptive element in the established traditional setting of the Keighley Town Centre conservation area,  which would have a negative impact on the character and appearance of the conservation area and neighbouring listed building."

The pub was originally owned by the Earl of Burlington but was first licensed and opened in September 1833.

Timothy Taylor’s acquired it and took over in December 1877.

Historic pub set to be revitalised

A decision on the new application is expected in October.

Despite the loss of this pub, plans to open another historic town centre pub, the Commercial, were approved earlier this month by Bradford Council.

And an application to turn empty office space in the town's Royal Arcade into a "historical" themed bar has also been recently submitted.
