GEORGE Collins, of Stainforth, is off to the United States to take up a scholarship to study for a Batchelor of Music in Guitar Performance at the Berklee School of Music.

The 18-year-old was awarded a merit scholarship at the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world, after he won the chance to take part in its summer guitar sessions last year.

The experience, part of his first prize in the Pendle Young Musicians Bursary, fuelled his passion for studying full time at Berklee after passing his A levels earlier this month in music, music technology and design at Giggleswick School. His prize also included the chance to work with Manchester Camerata, composing music for electric guitar and strings.

A regular performer, George has released a number of singles, available on Spotify and all other major platforms. “Music is my passion and I spend every waking hour playing, performing and practising.

“I can’t wait to start studying at Berklee and I’m very grateful for all the support I’ve received at Giggleswick School, from friends, family and the wider community.”
