WAR WIDOWS have taken tea with the Lord Mayor of Bradford and been given a guided tour of City Hall.
Members of the War Widows Association of West Yorkshire were given the treat on one of their regular socials.
Lord Mayor Councillor Doreen Lee welcomed the group and then gave them a surprise tour of the building, talking about its history and showing them the municipal silver and mayoral chains.
Member Florence Remmer said the Lord Mayor was a super person.
The 87-year-old writer and former nurse said: "It was a nice tea. It was lovely.
"The group is a wonderful thing for war widows, they look after me well.
"It's better than sitting in and knitting!"
She said about 20 people attended the meeting.
Veteran Jeffrey Long, who helped organise the visit, said the group had had four meetings so far this year with three in Bradford and it was a good chance for war widows to meet up and socialise and keep in touch.
