PASSENGERS have faced major rail delays this evening after a person was hit by a train near Brighouse station.

The British Transport Police reported that the person had sadly died at the scene.

The incident took place at 3:52pm this afternoon, with paramedics reportedly called to the tracks on Lilands Lane, around a mile from the station platforms.

A picture has emerged on social media of a private ambulance alongside the railway tracks.

The British Transport Police said its officers and paramedics were called but the person had already been pronounced dead at the scene.

It said that officers were working to identify the person and inform family, that the incident was not being treated as suspicious, and that a file was being prepared for the coroner.
