BRADFORD Council is backing a national campaign to help people to be better prepared for emergencies.

September is ‘Preparedness Month’ and the 30days30waysUK campaign will encourage people to take part an activity for each day of the month.

This includes an interactive bingo game with images to represent each of the 30 themes, including flood awareness, giving blood, road safety, first aid, gas safety and weather events.

People can also subscribe to a daily email for each of the 30 days, each on a different theme.

People can subscribe to the email by going to: http://30days30waysuk.org.uk/subscribe/ then get a bingo ‘card’ on bit.ly/2019PLAY.

People urged to have their say on Bradford's open spaces

Bradford Council is a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act, which means that its Emergency Planning team would work directly with key agencies, such as the police, fire and rescue and ambulance services in any major incident. This also gives it a legal responsibility to communicate key safety and resilience messages to the public.

The campaign is being run by members of UK Local Resilience Forums, which are partnerships made up of local public services, such as emergency services, local authorities, the NHS and Environment Agency.

Councillor Abdul Jabar, Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: “It is important that everyone knows what to do in emergencies, whether it’s a power cut, flood or just knowing what they need to do if they have to urgently leave their house.

"This campaign is a fun and interactive way to get people thinking about such scenarios.”
