CLASSIC car enthusiasts were able to gaze admiringly at 115 gleaming models which packed into Centenary Square today.

Part of the Bradford Classic weekend of events, the models on show ranged from the Mini, this year celebrating its 60th anniversary, to huge American convertibles and pickups.

Examples of the Bradford Jowett were on show as well as Morgan, TVR, Buick, Nash and many more.

Shipley resident Christopher Clapham, who runs Spinners Bradford Ltd, was at the show with his 1928 Austin 7, which he has owned since 1977.

The blue and black model is around 800cc, three gears and ‘runs well at 40mph’.

He said he was the eighth owner of the car which was first owned by Dr Colin Harper, of Kenilworth.

It has a 1947 MG TC and a 1904 De Dion-Bouton.

Also visiting from Shipley was former police superintendent Terry Slocombe with his 1936 Morris 8 two seater in British racing green.

He has owned the car for 10 years after selling his motorbike but was offering if for sale after recently moving from Cottingley to a flat with no garage nearby.

“If someone offers me £11.500 and promises to look after it, they can have it,” he said.

The car will do around 28 to the gallon, has three gears and a reverse gear, and costs him only around £130 a year to insure.

Bradford Classic organiser Mike Cowlam said he was happy so many cars had managed to make the venue despite the unsettled weather forecast.

"It has been a very positive atmosphere and it gives people a chance to come along and admire some wonderful vehicles while revisiting their youth," he said.
