INSTALLING two shipping containers, one on top of the other, near a busy junction "is not considered to represent good design" according to planning officers.
Bradford Council has refused an application for two steel containers on land behind 170 Carlisle Road in Manningham.
Submitted by Hussain Immigration Law, the proposals were to create extra storage space for the business.
Planning officers at the Council said the stacked containers would be 4.7 metres tall and "highly visible" from Toller Lane near its junction with Carlisle Road - one of the busiest junctions in Bradford.

They added: "The introduction of steel shipping containers in a prominent position such as this, is not considered to represent good design.
"It is not considered that steel shipping containers make a strong contribution to the visual amenity of the area.
"They do not reflect the existing character of the locality but would rather be deleterious to the character of the area."
