AN application to allow a take away to open until 2am has been refused.

In March Bradford Council granted a licence to Tong Fried Chicken in Bierley that would allow the business to stay open until 2am. But the owner Wajid Ali was told the business would still need to apply for planning permission for the later opening.

Planning officers have this week refused that application.

The Tong Street business currently opens until midnight, but Mr Ali had said there was a "high demand" for the later opening, and other nearby businesses open past midnight.

Refusing the plans, officers said: "No evidence has been submitted to show why an extension of hours is required and to allow such an extension would not only harm the amenity of neighbouring flats, it would also set a precedent that would be hard to resist if other takeaways followed suit.

"Noise and disturbance from customers, such as vehicle movements, comings and goings, talking and playing music would cause a detriment to neighbouring amenity at a time when residents could reasonably expect peaceful enjoyment of their properties."
