Opening in 1982, Clever Clogs based in Canal Road, had built its reputation as one of Bradford’s finest in self-service footwear, with a vast range of trainers for men, industrial footwear, golf shoes, ladies’ court shoes, canvas shoes and sandals, slippers for all, wellies and moonboots.
Shopping at Clever Clogs allowed the customer to try on shoes at leisure before paying for the purchases at the supermarket-style check-out.
Unfortunately, the footwear supermarket that had attracted tourists from all over the world collapsed in 1990, blaming cash flow problems and trading difficulties.
