This week our Remember When focus is on one Bradford’s most historic assets, the Grade II listed Conditioning House, long overdue for redevelopment.
The Conditioning House was built by the council in 1902 as a wool testing centre through a special Act of parliament in 1887. Almost 70 per cent of all wool produced in the UK was brought there for testing prior to use.
A certificate from the Conditioning House was as good as a bank note anywhere. If Bradford's testers said it was good, there was no arguing.
Whilst raiding our archives, we also came across these glorious pictures showing some of Bradford’s rich textile history.
Whether it be spinning or weaving these photographs certainly evoke memories from the industries heyday.
