COUNCILLORS have approved plans to finally build on a plot of land first earmarked for houses decades ago.

Approval to build four homes on the land off Pendle Road, Gilstead, dates back to when neighbouring housing was built in the early 1980s. But the plot of land was never built on.

Earlier this year Ghyll Royd Properties submitted a new application to build four houses on the site.

There had been nine objections to the plans from neighbours who claimed the design was an "over development" of the site. They also said the plans didn't take into account the fact that more homes have been built in the area since the previous approval for the site - increasing pressure on local roads.

At a meeting of Bradford Council's Keighley and Shipley Area Planning Panel last week members voted to approve the plans.

Planning officer Martyn Burke said: "We don't agree that four houses is overdevelopment, it fits comfortably on this land.

"There is no reason traffic from four additional homes would cause any problems."
