DISGUST has flooded in on social media after a flight helmet was stolen from an air ambulance after it landed in Shipley.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called to the West Royd area of the town in a potentially life or death situation.

While it had landed, it is believed someone stole a flight helmet from the aircraft.

This action prompted outrage on social media.

Dave Walton, deputy chief fire officer of West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, said: "Nothing much surprises me any more.

"This is off the scale outrageous though. How have they got the nerve?"

PC Johnson added: "People of Shipley, have some common sense and report who did this. This is expensive kit!"

Another user, called Zeph, tweeted: "What the actual heck?! Why would anyone do such a thing? Absolutely shameful and saddening."

Steve Robinson said: "I'm disgusted and saddened. Some folk are just lowlifes."

Some other responses featured slightly more colourful language to describe the people or person who stole the helmet.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the helmet has been found and returned by a member of the public, not believed to be the suspect who stole it.
