SHAHID Mohammed was yesterday convicted of the murders of eight members of the same family in a house fire in Huddersfield in 2002.

Here is a timeline of events since the blaze that killed three adults and five children at the home in Birkby.

- May 12 2002, 2am: Emergency services are called to 40 Osborne Road, Birkby, Huddersfield, to reports of a house fire. Eight members of the Chishti family are killed in the blaze. A number of arrests are made later in the day, including Mohammed, who is interviewed at length and bailed to return to Huddersfield police station in July.

- July 2002: Mohammed fails to answer bail.

- July 2003: Three men are convicted at Leeds Crown Court for their parts in the arson attack. Shaied Iqbal is convicted of murder and Shakiel Shazad and Nazar Hussain are found guilty of manslaughter.

- May 2013: Eight people are arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and supporting Mohammed in escaping and evading justice.

- January 22 2015: Mohammed is arrested in the Rawalpindi district of Pakistan following years of liaison between the Foreign Commonwealth Office and UK representatives in Islamabad.

- August 2018: Mohammed loses his appeal against extradition from Pakistan.

- October 3 2018: Mohammed is extradited to the UK from Pakistan.

- July 8 2019: Mohammed goes on trial at Leeds Crown Court charged with eight counts of murder and one count of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life.

- August 6 2019: Mohammed is unanimously found guilty of all charges.
