PHOTOS have revealed how more than 60 spent boxes of fireworks were left dumped in the street after the Sunday night barrage which disturbed residents across the district and could be heard six miles away.

The boxes were spotted dumped in Newton Street, West Bowling, by horrified residents, who were left fuming that the cost to clear up the mess would have to be picked up by the public purse.

As well as the boxes piled seven storeys high, the streets were also littered with huge amounts of debris left by the explosions, making the area at the junction with St Stephen's Road look a complete mess.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said she was told two weddings on Sunday in Newton Street and Parkside Road were to blame.

Local residents said the fireworks sounded more like bombs going off, and they had never seen anything quite like it, even at public firework displays.

People said the barrage went on for up to 20 minutes. Fireworks seem to be an almost nightly - and sometimes, bizarrely, daily - occurrence in Bradford's skies, but people said Sunday night's episode was the worst they had seen.

Police confirmed they received complaints of fireworks in West Bowling on Sunday night.

A protest against fireworks is being held on Saturday, August 17, against fireworks.
