Shipley's Casa Espresso has won one of the world's most prestigious food and drinks awards - fighting off competition from over 100 different countries.

Casa Espresso was awarded a 1-star Great Taste award for its Charlestown espresso blend and a 2-star Great Taste award for its Unione espresso blend.

Recognised as a stamp of excellence, Great Taste values taste above all else, with no regard for branding and packaging.

Nino Di Rienzo, the owner who also won the T&A Bradford Means Business Awards – Retail category in 2017, said: “The Great Taste logo has added value to our business in terms of credibility, opening doors to new retailers, and ultimately increasing sales.

"For our Charlestown blend, this is the third year in a row it has received the award, and the Unione blend has really taken off with a 2-star award this year.”

There were more than 12,000 entries into Great Taste this year.

The panel of judges included: cook, writer and champion of sustainable food, Melissa Hemsley; Kenny Tutt, MasterChef 2018 champion; author Olia Hercules; chef and food writer, Gill Meller; Kavi Thakar from Dishoom; food writer and stylist; Georgina Hayden and author and chef, Zoe Adjonyoh.

Food buyers from Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Sourced Market and Partridges also took part.
