POLICE have released further details about a shooting in Holme Wood on Saturday. 

It happened just before midnight on Broadstone Way and officers have described it as a "targeted" attack.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Four men in a light coloured Citroen Picasso are believed to have approached a silver Mercedes on the road, before smashing the windscreen and firing a shotgun into the interior.

"Both vehicles subsequently left the scene. A short time later, however, the vehicle containing the suspects was found unoccupied and on fire on Eversley Drive.

"At just after 1am in the morning (Sunday) a 26-year-old man attended a local hospital with injuries to his arm and face, consistent with shotgun wounds.

"Although serious, his condition is not believed life threatening and officers are speaking with him as part of their ongoing enquiries."

Detective Chief Inspector, Heather Whoriskey is leading investigations into the incident and said: “We know that this was an isolated and targeted attack, by individuals who were likely known to the victim.

“Irrespective of the circumstances, the impact that such an incident can have on the local community is clear. We are therefore providing a neighbourhood policing presence in the area, offering increased reassurance for residents.

“We will never accept this type of behaviour on our streets and will do everything in our power to place the full weight of justice upon those responsible.
