THE owners of a pub that was recently refused retrospective permission for large events marquees have confirmed they are planning to appeal the decision.

Bradford Council refused the plans for marquees to the rear of the 6 Acres pub in Drighlington last month.

Officers had raised concern about the location – in Greenbelt and on a historic battlefield site – Adwalton Moor.

The marquees are used for weddings and a number of other functions.

A statement released by the pub today said the decision would go to an appeal, and that all bookings for the venue would be honoured.

Pub's marquee plans refused over fears over impact on historic battlefield

The statement said: “The Directors of The 6 Acres Public House were very concerned to note the decision by the local planning authority to refuse a retrospective planning application to maintain the two function suite marquees which currently sit on the land immediately by the side of the public house.

“It is the opinion of the Directors that the marquee facility benefits the immediate community and this has been clearly illustrated by the demand to hold functions at The 6 Acres.

“Having taken advice on the decision made by the local planning authority the Directors will be appealing against the decision to refuse planning permission and have been advised that there are good prospects for such an appeal.

“The Directors assure those who have made bookings that those bookings will be honoured and will advise all prospective customers of the date for any planning appeal that is given.

“The Directors are very aware of the importance to people of ensuring their function proceeds without difficulty. The Directors will do everything that is in their power to ensure that happens.

“Should anybody have any queries which they would like to raise about a booking they have already made or one that they would like to make they are invited to contact the company who will answer all questions received.”

A Bradford Council spokesperson, said: “Planning Enforcement Notices have been issued, which are subject to an appeal process and timescales for these are not within our control.

“We have to wait for the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol to issue an official start letter, which will set out the dates for the appeal process. This means the requirements of the Planning Enforcement Notice are in effect on hold until the outcome of the appeal is known.”
