POLICING and crime are the priorities residents want Boris Johnson’s new Government to focus on, according to data collected by Shipley MP Philip Davies.

The NHS was next on the list, followed by education, transport and housing.

Mr Davies collected the information at a roadshow organised by the Blue Collar Conservatism group.

The public was asked to rank five domestic policy areas in order of priority, as well as offer further policy suggestions.

Results showed that 54 per cent of people ranked policing as their top priority, 25 per cent wanted the NHS to be the main focus, 21 per cent opted for education and seven per cent housing and transport.

No-one ranked policing or education as their lowest priority.

Mr Davies added: “These events are about listening to people and finding out what their priorities are.

“Schools’ budgets are being squeezed and the NHS faces pressure from an ageing population – and people rightly want more money ploughed into these areas.

“Therefore we need to look at other areas where we can save money. One suggestion is to reduce overseas aid to the generous 2010 levels which would free up £7 billion to be put into domestic priorities, which I support.”
