A TOLLER Lane resident has blasted the bins situation near his house, with no collection for over a fortnight seeing rodents and fly-tipping gather up.

Ali Hussain said it is the fourth or fifth time in the last six months that the green bins have not been collected by Bradford Council, meaning that plastic bags of rubbish are piling up in the offending alleyway.

He said that all of the affected residents have complained to the council multiple times, but to no avail.

Yesterday morning, Mr Hussain blasted: “It feels like the Council is mucking us about and it’s not the first time. It’s happened on four or five occasions over the last six or seven months in the same spot.

“The bins are supposed to get collected once a fortnight but the lorries don’t always turn up and we've got to put our rubbish there as there's nowhere else.

“We’ve got a bunch of rats and mice because of it and I’ve seen them go through into next door’s garden.

“It’s quite visible from the main road on Duckworth Lane, as it’s in the snicket directly opposite the Rawal takeaway.

“Kids play out in the street and often they have to go near the rubbish when their balls roll down there.

“One of the houses is just a few metres from the waste too.”

With the rubbish piling up, matters took a further turn for the worse over the weekend.

Mr Hussain explained: “Even three or four days ago it was just bin bags but people then started throwing things like carpets on to the pile.

“When the council leave the collection for two or three weeks (longer than supposed to) it turns it into a fly-tipping hotspot.

“The council are well aware of it, and they've been out a few times and put up fly-tipping signs on lampposts but when there was nothing there (in terms of rubbish), there wasn't any fly-tipping.”

Speaking about how the residents have tried to combat the problem, 28-year-old Mr Hussain said: “There’s five or six houses close to the rubbish and we’ve all called up and used the Council app to report it.

“We’ve got through to an agent but it just gets logged and nobody from the Council is turning up.”

In a statement, Bradford Council replied: “We have no record of missing bin collections at this location but any current issues should be resolved by the next general waste collection today.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and if residents have any concerns they should contact Bradford Council on the website www.bradford.gov.uk or telephone 01274 431000.”

Speaking to the T&A yesterday afternoon, Mr Hussain said that the plastic bags had been removed by the Council at lunchtime, although the bins were still there.

However, he felt the issue ran much deeper than that.

He said: "It will just happen again and that is a big concern.

"I've had to do this before (ring the Council and ask them to clear the rubbish) and I shouldn't have to go this far.”
