HOLIDAYMAKERS and travellers have been left stranded after two buses broke down at Bradford's Interchange Bus Station this morning.

One group was supposed to be heading off for two days to Southport and the Lakes with National Holidays while a Megabus to London was also causing problems to its passengers.

The National Holidays coach was due to leave Bradford at 8.50 today but four hours later the coach party were still waiting to embark on their journey.

Two of those on the trip were Lynn and Hedley Myers, of Eccleshill.

They said an electrical fault had stopped the bus leaving stand U and a mechanic had not been able to fix it.

They were having to wait for a replacement bus to arrive from Washington, Tyne and Wear, to take them to the west coast and their overnight hotel in Preston.

The air conditioning was reportedly not working and passengers had to use the shops in the bus station to get food and drinks while they waited.

At stand V next door, a busload of people were waiting to get to London on the Megabus double-decker.

The 11.50am service had also broken down and the passengers were having to wait for another vehicle to arrive.

One passenger said she was heading to London for an engagement party so was hoping she would not be too delayed.

A spokesman for Megabus said there was a technical fault with the vehicle used by a third party company operating the 1150 service to London.

A replacement vehicle was sent to collect passengers and they are due to arrive into London with a delay of approximately 60 minutes.

The spokesman added: "We would like to apologise to customers for the delay to their service and the inconvenience caused."
