FORTY cyclists set off from Cleckheaton yesterday to embark on the fourth Jo Cox Way bike ride.

The annual bike ride, sponsored by PURE Business Group, celebrates the late Batley and Spen MPs zest for life, while raising awareness and funds for the Jo Cox Foundation, which works to fly the flag for community spirit and supports causes she championed.

The riders set off from Princess Mary Stadium and were joined by Jo's sister, Kim Leadbeater, who is cycling the first and last says of the five-day, 288-mile journey, which ends in London on Sunday. Tour de France legend Brian Robinson, from Mirfield, also joined them.

The group of mixed-ability riders is winding its way through many towns and villages as it heads from north to south and will be joined by other cyclists for parts of the route.

Jo's 'more in common' message is remembered through wording on their jerseys in a poignant nod to her maiden speech in the House of Commons, when she said: "We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us."
